It’s not what you know but who you know; that’s the key to successful exporting according to Keith Lambourne of ACO Group. Now Keith is chairing Global Trade Network (GTN), a new group aimed at helping exporters learn from one another and access the help of experts from organisations such as UK Trade and Investment and the Chamber.
Keith, who has some thirty years experience in international trade, believes a great deal of time can be saved by sharing knowledge and expertise and is convinced there is no replacement for face-to-face contact.
‘The one single constant since my early days as an exporter, and now today as a relatively experienced exporter, is the knowledge I gained and still gain from the people I meet personally’ he says ‘In these days of impersonal electronic communication I sometimes think the importance of a handshake or a face-to-face meeting is all but forgotten.’
The good news is that the Global Trade Network is aiming to put back the personal touch with a series of meetings where businesses will be able to learn from one another’s experience and benefit from expert advice and guidance. In addition the committee, formed from experienced exporters, are available to assist member companies and the group will also benefit from a dedicated newsletter featuring advice from successful companies.

The launch of GTN could not be more timely with exciting new markets emerging and the economy becoming increasingly global. It’s clear that UK business cannot afford to take an insular approach.
